About The Position

OptiMIM uses state-of-the-art metal injection molding technology to create high performing precision metal components to almost any level of complexity. We are seeking an experienced Controls & Automation Technician with programming experience who can hit the ground running and have an immediate impact on our operations. In this role, you will perform new equipment builds including programming PLC, Ladder Logic, various robots and fabrication. You will aid in the troubleshooting and resolution of production problems (quality, machine, and cycle time issues) as well as aiding and performing PMs on equipment.

Requirements

  • PLC programming and computer controls knowledge is required
  • Ability to use DMM, Megger, and other electronic/test and inspection equipment to troubleshoot machines and facilities issues.
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand P&IDs.
  • At least 2 years of college, on the job training, or special training in electrical or automated machinery.
  • Ability to verbally communicate as well as read, interpret, and create documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to lift at least 25lbs on a consistent basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer familiarity with Allen-Bradley, Click, Siemens S7 300, and/or direct automation PLCs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform new equipment builds or assist outside vendors with new controls/automation equipment designs and qualifications (light fabrication, software installs, wiring, ladder logic/HMI/robot programming, etc.)
  • Troubleshoot and repair automated equipment as needed (adjusting settings, replacing failed sensors and setting up replacements, troubleshooting hydraulic, electrical, and control systems/automation equipment)
  • Work with Process Engineering to create new equipment automation parts lists for estimating new automation machinery/processes and documenting all new and existing equipment changes (wiring diagrams, P&IDs, E & I spares list, etc.)
  • Support and perform maintenance activities as assigned.
  • Sole owner for assigned department(s) electrical systems under 500V AC & DC monitoring.
  • Perform predictive maintenance (thermal imaging, wire meggering, etc.) to identify potential electrical problems.
  • Assists Maintenance Manager with scheduling need PMs from thermal scans and performs all electrical PMs as assigned.
  • Review and set all automation safety requirements.
  • Make changes as needed for all automated machines/processes to ensure equipment and user safety.
  • Work with outside electrical contractors supporting new circuit/equipment electrical installations and troubleshooting of existing systems.
