About The Position

We are a small private equity company headquartered in Downers Grove, IL. We are seeking a hands-on Controller to own the full accounting function across two portfolio companies. This is a working controller role - the right candidate will be equally comfortable closing the books and rolling up their sleeves on day-to-day transactions as they are producing clean financials for our management team. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who thrives in a small-company environment and takes pride in owning the numbers end-to-end.

Requirements

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Proven experience owning a full month-end close process
• Comfortable performing both high-level and transactional accounting work
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
• Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, or similar)
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel

Nice To Haves

• CPA or CPA candidate
• Prior experience in a small or owner-operated business where wearing multiple hats was the norm

Responsibilities

• Manage and execute the full month-end close process for both portfolio companies
• Prepare accurate and timely financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow)
• Maintain and reconcile all balance sheet accounts
• Oversee AR/AP clerk
• Manage daily cash
• Code and record transactions across both entities
• Prepare and file monthly sales tax returns
• Assist with annual budget preparation
• Prepare info necessary for annual commercial insurance renewals
• Coordinate with external accountants on year-end 1099 preparation
