About The Position

The Controller is a senior finance leader who will directly contribute to LifeLink’s life-saving mission by proactively overseeing all accounting operations. This role ensures the integrity of financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and adherence to accounting standards. The Controller is critical in maintaining strong financial controls and partnering with operational and clinical leaders to provide accurate, timely, and transparent financial information. The position involves managing accounting functions related to Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and General Ledger, as well as regulatory filings. The Controller must possess strong technical accounting knowledge to prepare and maintain financial reports, produce complex monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP, and file Form 990’s and Medicare Cost Reports. Additionally, the role requires an aptitude for systems, strong management, leadership, and effective communication skills, including direct supervision, leadership, training, and mentoring of assigned staff.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role.
  • Significant experience in nonprofit and/or healthcare accounting, preferably within a large, complex organization ($100M+) containing multiple departmentalized budgetary cost centers.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and healthcare finance practices.
  • Demonstrated experience managing audits, internal controls, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and collaborate across departments.
  • Strong analytical skills to detect and correct discrepancies.
  • Excellent customer service skills, in person, on the phone and in writing.
  • General understanding of health care related reimbursement and accounting issues, and a basic understanding of the Federal Tax regulations relating to a 501 (C)(3) organization.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and fixed assets accounting.
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit healthcare accounting standards.
  • Prepare consolidated financial statements for a $200M organization, including multiple entities or programs as applicable.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close processes (including inventory costing) ensuring accuracy and adherence to timelines.
  • Support Foundation Supply Chain and Materials Management to ensure accurate inventory existence, monitor and analyze inventory levels, and ensure best practices are being utilized for procurement contracts.
  • Oversee the timely and accurate completion of annual Medicare cost reports.
  • Coordinates with the Director of Finance & Accounting on Medicare audits and communications.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including healthcare-specific requirements.
  • Maintain and continuously improve internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to safeguard organizational assets.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for external auditors; coordinate annual financial audits, single audits, and regulatory examinations.
  • Support compliance with IRS Form 990 reporting and other required filings.
  • Partner with the CFO in the development and monitoring of the annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Provide variance analysis and financial insights to support executive leadership and department heads.
  • Support long-range financial planning, cash flow forecasting, and liquidity management.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish clear performance expectations, provide coaching, and support professional development.
  • Promote process automation and efficiency through effective use of financial systems and technology.
  • Oversee financial systems, including ERP and accounting software; partner with IT and vendors on upgrades and enhancements.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve data accuracy and reporting capabilities.
  • Ensure strong integration between accounting, billing, and clinical/operational systems as applicable.
