About The Position

We are currently conducting a Controller search for a Commercial General Contractor based in Tempe, AZ. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role will oversee a small accounting team and be responsible for core accounting operations including month-end close, job costing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting. The Controller will also play a key role in financial planning, performance analysis, and an upcoming ERP system conversion. This is an in-office role, 5 days a week at their office in Tempe, Arizona.

Requirements

Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related is required
7+ years’ of accounting/finance experience
3+ years’ commercial real estate construction accounting experience (including job costing, WIP reporting, etc.), ideally working for a General Contractor.
2+ years’ of leadership experience
Experience implementing process improvement

Responsibilities

Oversee month-end close, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and overall accounting operations.
Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and profitability analysis.
Manage job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and project profitability tracking.
Monitor financial performance metrics and maintain target profit margins.
Develop and manage cash flow planning and capital strategies to support company growth.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and financial reporting standards.
Implement and maintain strong internal controls and financial risk management processes.
Partner with operational leaders to ensure project-level financial accountability.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and operational efficiencies through financial analysis.
Lead ERP implementation and optimize financial systems, automation, and reporting capabilities.
Oversee payroll administration and performance-based compensation structures.
