About The Position

This role is responsible for owning financial reporting, cash management, and job cost accuracy across two markets. The Controller will maintain the thirteen-week cash forecast, the monthly reporting package, job costing, and the loaded rates that ensure quoted work stays above the cost recovery floor. This position also leads the Purchasing Specialist and the Bookkeeper.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5+ years in construction or project-based industries
  • 7-10 years in accounting
  • Proficiency with Sage 50
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Deep knowledge of construction accounting, WIP reporting, lien waivers, AIA billing, and certified payroll
  • Track record of improving processes, reducing errors, and driving operational finance performance

Responsibilities

  • Own the thirteen-week cash forecast, updating it weekly and publishing cash on hand every Monday.
  • Inform the CEO of potential cash flow issues before they occur.
  • Deliver the monthly reporting package, including financial statements, margin by job, and budget vs. actual by department, within two business days of month-end close.
  • Ensure accurate job costing, including labor, material, and subcontractor costs against estimates, and report margin per job.
  • Maintain and refresh loaded labor burden and overhead absorption rates at least annually or when the cost base changes materially.
  • Reissue the pricing calculator within ten business days of any rate changes.
  • Review the margin on all quotes above a CEO-agreed threshold to ensure they meet the cost recovery floor.
  • Escalate any proposed jobs below the cost recovery floor before they are signed.
  • Present the three key company financial numbers with variance explanations at the weekly leadership meeting.
  • Lead and develop the finance team, including the Purchasing Specialist and the Bookkeeper.
  • Own the cutoff calendar that guides the rest of the business.
  • Manage working relationships with the external CPA and lenders, ensuring all filing dates and obligations are met.
