About The Position

Bauman Landscape and Construction, Inc. and Bauman Redi-Mix, are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to oversee the company's accounting function and provide reliable financial insight to ownership and leadership. We are a family-owned general engineering contractor serving Northern California since 1977. Our work includes earthwork, underground utilities, concrete, landscape & irrigation, and site development. This is an opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who likes being close to the business, understands the importance of accurate job costing, inter-company transactions and sales tax reporting and regular quarterly financial reporting, and is comfortable working with a team in a fast-moving construction environment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Previous experience as a Financial Controller, Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, or similar accounting leadership role
  • Construction accounting experience is strongly preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of construction job costing and project financial reporting
  • Solid understanding of general ledger accounting, financial statements, reconciliations, and closing procedures
  • Experience working with accounting or ERP platforms such as Spectrum, ProContractor, Sage/Vista, QuickBooks, or similar systems
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong analytical ability with excellent attention to detail
  • Organized, dependable, and comfortable managing multiple priorities
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with ownership, operations, and accounting teams
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Nice To Haves

  • CPA designation is an asset but is not required

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting and financial operations
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and related accounting functions
  • Prepare timely monthly financial statements, reporting packages, and financial analysis
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes
  • Maintain accurate balance sheet reconciliations and financial records
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow reporting
  • Monitor project financial performance and maintain accurate construction job costing
  • Provide leadership with meaningful financial information to support business decisions
  • Maintain and strengthen accounting procedures, internal controls, and reporting processes
  • Ensure accounting practices remain consistent with company policies and applicable standards
  • Coordinate with outside CPA firms, tax advisors, auditors, and other financial partners
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting systems, processes, and efficiency
  • Lead, support, and develop members of the accounting team
