About The Position

The Control Technician II - Assembly Operations role at GE Appliances, a Haier company, is a key position within a high-energy production facility. This role is responsible for supporting appliance manufacturing operations by continuously monitoring process parameters to ensure the highest quality parts and products with minimal scrap. The technician will maintain process controls, robot programs, and other systems to support safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives for the Decatur operations. The position involves working under the direction of an area leader or manager to process, set up, and troubleshoot machines and equipment, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, housekeeping, and company policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • One or more years of experience in machine setup, heavy machinery, or machining operations, preferably in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of PLCs and capability to make minor adjustments.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work with tight tolerances (+/- .0005 - .002).
  • Ability to work around moving machines (robots, machinery, forklifts, etc.).
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to understand basic mechanical concepts and relationships.
  • Availability to work weekends or extended hours as needed.
  • Ability to operate a forklift.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Must pass a background check and drug screen.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a physical confirming satisfactory health for the job and have the ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without accommodation.
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs., with potential heavy lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to access required areas pertaining to the job including, but not limited to: foam rooms, chemicals, high noise, and other areas of the plant.
  • Job may require the use of a respirator at times; therefore, candidates must complete an annual medical evaluation to safely wear a respirator.
  • Able to operate and troubleshoot the machinery, tools, and equipment.
  • Must be capable of obtaining & maintaining Fork Truck certifications/licenses.
  • Exposure to equipment at elevated temperatures.
  • Must wear all required PPE including steel-toed shoes & hearing protection.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting, setup, loading, transferring, operating, and adjusting processes and associated production equipment.
  • Performing routine and preventive maintenance and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions.
  • Applying hands-on skills in repairing mechanical, electrical, electronics, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Completing changeovers, changing dies, and performing manual tool changeovers to convert fixtures for different size configurations.
  • Working with operations leadership to prioritize work and meet critical deadlines.
  • Collaborating with quality, engineering, and maintenance teams to prepare for trials, assist in operations, and handle the disposition of test or scrap materials.
  • Proactively leading the troubleshooting and analysis of assigned equipment, machines, and processes.
  • Implementing actions and documenting/tracking processes for improvement.
  • Using technology such as PLCs, smart boards, TV screens, and kiosks to monitor equipment.
  • Rotating among jobs within the department to understand all aspects of the production process.
  • Maintaining a clean work environment and following all company policies regarding safety and material handling.
  • Utilizing a forklift to maneuver parts, materials, and dies.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
