About The Position

Join the GE Appliances team in a high-energy, production facility environment. Our Control Technicians support appliance manufacturing operations to provide continuously monitor process parameters required to produce the highest quality part and product with the least scrap. Maintain process controls, robot programs and other systems, in support of safety, quality, delivery, and meeting cost objectives for our Decatur operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • One or more years of experience in machine setup, heavy machinery or machining operations preferably in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of PLC and capability of making minor adjustments.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work with tight tolerances (+/- .0005 - .002).
  • Ability to work around moving machines – robots, machinery, forklifts, etc.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to understand basic mechanical concepts and relationships.
  • Available to work weekends or extended hours as needed.
  • Ability to operate a forklift.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Must pass a background check and drug screen.
  • Must be able to successfully complete physical confirming satisfactory health for job and have the ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without an accommodation, including, but not limited to: Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs., with potential heavy lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to access required areas pertaining to job including, but not limited to: foam rooms, chemicals, high noise, and other areas of the plant.
  • Job may require the use of a respirator at times; therefore, candidates must complete an annual medical evaluation to safely wear a respirator.
  • Able to operate and troubleshoot the machinery, tools and equipment.
  • Must be capable of obtaining & maintaining Fork Truck certifications/licenses.
  • Exposure to equipment at elevated Temperatures.
  • Must wear all required PPE including steel toed shoes & hearing protection.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree in a technical field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting, setup, loading, transferring, operating and adjusting processes, and the associated production equipment.
  • Performing routine and preventive maintenance and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions.
  • Applying hands-on skills in repairing certain mechanical, electrical, electronics, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Completing changeovers as needed; changing dies; and performing manual tool changeovers converting the fixtures to run and trial different size configurations as needed.
  • Working with operations leadership to prioritize work and meet critical deadlines.
  • Working with quality, engineering, maintenance, etc. to help prepare for trials, assist in operations, and handle the disposition of test or scrap materials.
  • Proactively leading the troubleshooting & analyzing of assigned equipment / machines and processes.
  • Implementing actions and helping document and track processes for improvement.
  • Using technology including PLC’s, smart boards, tv screens, kiosks on the shop floor to monitor equipment.
  • Rotating among jobs within the department and knowing all aspects of the production process.
  • Maintaining a clean work environment and following all company policies and practices regarding safety and material handling.
  • Utilizing a forklift to maneuver parts, materials and dies in the area.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned.
