About The Position

The Mechanical Contracting Field Superintendent supervises a team of Mechanical Contracting field technicians, focusing on enhancing their performance and facilitating their continuous training, growth, and improvement. This role involves coordinating with Project Managers on start dates and manpower needs, serving as a liaison between the field and the office, and assisting with the onboarding process for new technicians. The superintendent provides regular feedback and coaching, hires field associates based on workload (including working with temp staffing), and holds associates accountable for their actions, involving HR and management when necessary. They review and approve weekly time and expenses, conduct weekly onsite job visits, and maintain the schedule board for accuracy. The role includes representing the team at quarterly Team Leader meetings, performing annual performance reviews, setting goals, and recognizing exemplary performance. The superintendent also assists the Ops Manager with oversight of team resources, forecasts staffing needs with Project Managers, and ensures compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. Collaboration with associates to uphold company mission and values is essential. Flexibility for overtime/weekends and regular travel with overnight stays are required, along with other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in scheduling/dispatching.
  • 2 years of customer service experience required.
  • Frequent use of computers, mobile devices, and Microsoft products to manage business processes and tasks.
  • Ability to pass drug screening.
  • Ability to prove US employment eligibility.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, squat, balance, and climb, with occasional sitting and lying.
  • Requires working in confined/constricted spaces and at elevated heights (e.g., ladders, scaffolding, rooftops).
  • Material handling demands include lifting from floor level to overhead and maneuvering in tight or awkward spaces.
  • Ability to lift and carry or otherwise move up to 25 pounds constantly.
  • Ability to lift and carry or otherwise move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to lift and carry or otherwise move over 50 pounds only with mechanical assistance or team lift, following safety protocols.
  • Associates are expected to lift no more than 50 pounds independently, unless assisted by appropriate equipment or a team lift.
  • Team lifts are required for any load exceeding 50 pounds per individual, with clear communication protocols, including verbal confirmation and coordinated movements, to ensure safety.
  • Must always follow proper lifting techniques and safety protocols.
  • Frequent use of hands and wrists for repetitive tasks such as tool use, wiring, or securing fasteners.
  • Must have sufficient hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to use hand tools, power tools, and electronic diagnostic equipment.
  • Must be able to work at heights.
  • Must be able to climb and perform tasks while positioned on ladders.
  • Regularly required to use hands to operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and perceive verbal instructions and warnings in a high-noise industrial environment (above 85 dBA), while wearing required hearing protection.
  • Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must have the physical capacity to work extended hours, including overtime and weekends, during peak demand or emergency service periods.
  • Position is classified in the Heavy Physical Demand Classification (PDC).
  • Regularly exposed to mechanical/equipment rooms, rooftops, and drop ceilings.
  • Occasionally required to work in extreme outdoor conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) and unconditioned indoor spaces.
  • The employee may occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious locations; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.
  • Must wear appropriate PPE, including but not limited to: safety glasses, safety-toed boots, hard hats, high-visibility vests or shirts, task-specific gloves, fall protection harness and hearing protection, as required by the work environment.
  • Hard hats are required when working in areas with potential overhead hazards.
  • All PPE must comply with OSHA standards and be inspected daily for proper condition, fits appropriately, and is free of defects.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree preferred.
  • HVAC industry experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises field employees in the Mechanical Contracting Department.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Interviews, trains, plans, assigns, directs work, appraises performance, rewards, disciplines employees, and resolves problems.
  • Coordinates with PM on the start date and manpower needs.
  • Serves as liaison between the field and the office.
  • Assists with onboarding process for new technicians.
  • Provides regular feedback and coaching to technicians on their performance to expectations.
  • Hires field Associates based on workload, including working with a temp staffing company if additional manpower is needed.
  • Holds all field Associates accountable for their actions that require disciplinary action, involving HR and manager if needed.
  • Reviews and approves field Associate’s weekly time and expenses for accuracy.
  • Conducts weekly onsite job visits as projects are in progress.
  • Maintains the schedule board to ensure it is accurate at all times.
  • Represents team at quarterly Team Leader meetings and provides team with feedback, including any updates.
  • Performs annual performance reviews with each field technician; sets goals and addresses all performance issues; provides recognition for exemplary performance.
  • Assists Ops Manager and provides oversight of respective team resources.
  • Forecasts anticipated staffing needs for your territory with the Project Managers.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws, legal regulations, and recommended best practices.
  • Collaborates with all Associates to uphold the company’s mission and values.
  • Works overtime/weekends, as required.
  • Travels regularly, including overnight travel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
