About The Position

Kokosing is seeking a Superintendent to provide field management execution for federal contracts. This role involves ensuring project goals are met safely, on time, and within budget. The position will focus on projects in the Mid-Atlantic region, specifically the Tidewater area of Virginia, including MILCON and infrastructure projects for government agencies like USACE and NAVFAC. The scope may involve leading field execution for a single project or a specific discipline on a large project, utilizing various contract procurement methodologies. The Superintendent will be responsible for managing self-perform work, coordinating subcontractors, ensuring safety and quality, and assisting with cost projections and site logistics.

Requirements

  • Possess a 4-year Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management.
  • 10+ years experience with extensive knowledge of construction, design, finance, and management as well as proven leadership in a self-performing general contractor role required.
  • 5+ years of experience as Superintendent.
  • Must be able to understand, interpret, and consistently apply safety laws, company policies/standards, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Ability to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance.
  • Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, etc. and their impact on project activities.
  • Must possess superior communication and interpersonal skills (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc.).
  • Ability to build trust and achieve results with clients and company team members.
  • Ability to plan strategically over the entire span of a project and foresee and mitigate obstacles to performance.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, plan and coordinate personnel, equipment and materials for self-perform portions of the work.
  • Coordinate work activities of subcontractors and provide GC support as required by the subcontract to execute the work safely and effectively.
  • Review line drawings from Field Engineer and implement line drawing into the field with the Foreman.
  • Identify conflicts between elements of the work and crews and eliminate them.
  • Orientate new trades for self-perform crews.
  • Lead safety and productivity planning on designated work items with the crews.
  • Coordinate layout needs.
  • Coordinate dates with responsible Engineer on long lead and major materials needed.
  • Review bulk material and trucking usage logs from the Field Engineer and implement course corrections to minimize waste and cost overruns.
  • Assist Project Manager on cost projections for assigned work elements.
  • Ensure that all self-perform work crews have a backup work plan in the event of a conflict between crews and/or Subcontractor.
  • Assist the Field Engineer on managing Subs.
  • Coordinate with the Materials Field Engineer on staging of all materials onsite.
  • Develop an effective site logistics and laydown plan.
  • Ensure Foreman and Field Engineer are keeping accurate and up to date as-builts weekly.
  • Approve timecards for field crews and ensure accurate quantities are claimed daily.
  • Ensure a thorough and accurate daily report is submitted daily inclusive of daily reports from all subordinate superintendents and assigned subcontractors.
  • Build and maintain a culture of quality and safety where work is performed safely, accurately and according to the contract specifications with a goal of no rework.
