About The Position

This role supports the Heart & Stroke content team in developing, delivering and maintaining engaging and impactful content for heartandstroke.ca and other channels. The role is versed in digital content best practices, including the responsible use of AI, SEO optimization, personalization and understanding of current trends. The ideal candidate is a fast learner and a good communicator who can integrate input from a variety of stakeholders into a clear plan. The role requires a confident writer who can switch between long and short copy with ease and is highly organized, self-motivated and attentive to details. Reporting to the senior editor, content, the content coordinator is part of a team working as the Foundation’s internal content agency — serving the needs of various business units. While the content coordinator manages some projects and tasks independently, they will also work in close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education
  • 2–3 years of experience supporting digital content
  • strong writing skills (i.e. blogs and articles)
  • knowledge of digital media, including SEO and user journeys
  • comfortable using AI while recognizing its limitations
  • understanding of audience mind-set
  • aptitude for client service
  • demonstrated ability to meet deadlines

  • ability to maintain productivity and pivot effectively

Nice To Haves

  • marketing role or not-for-profit experience would be an asset
  • knowledge of French would be an asset

Responsibilities

  • Work with content and digital teams to develop and deliver data-driven content with the audience at the centre.
  • Researching, writing, editing and optimizing new website content, as assigned using AI across the content creation process, understanding its limitations and adhering to AI guidelines
  • Preparing content for publication, including image research and optimization to improve searchability and readability
  • Working with the digital experience specialist to identify SEO opportunities, when editing and rewriting content, to ensure discoverability
  • Researching interesting topics and opportunities that increase web traffic and engagement
  • Performing competitor content analysis
  • Reviewing content with accessibility and equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) perspectives to ensure it aligns with the foundation’s commitments
  • Working with the content and digital teams to develop creative solutions to content needs
  • Contributing ideas and developing prototypes in collaboration with internal stakeholders
  • Managing monthly newsletter execution under the direction of the senior editor, content, writing content and managing workflow.
  • Reviewing and updating content as assigned
  • Maintaining back-end systems — including writing and updating copydecks — for orderly site maintenance and content tracking
  • Supporting content team in developing and improving workflow and related processes to maximize efficiency and facilitate collaboration
  • Quality assurance testing of various digital properties (e.g. website, email newsletter).
  • Participating in content + creative services meetings and working with project manager to ensure internal client requests are delivered on time and on brief.
  • Managing tasks to completion including periodic reporting to senior editor, content, and communicating with stakeholders, as required
  • Prioritizing appropriately.
