About The Position

The American Red Cross is seeking a Content Operations Manager to manage the day-to-day publishing, optimization and flow of content across national American Red Cross communications channels. This is a hands-on content management role that works across multiple publishing and digital asset management systems to ensure content is optimized for audiences, easy to discover, and efficiently shared across teams and platforms. Responsibilities include publishing and optimizing content on RedCross.org, providing operational support to the national photo and video teams, coordinating content during major disaster operations, and identifying opportunities to repurpose and distribute content across channels. This role will be part of the national Content & Channel Strategy Team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or another related field.
  • Minimum five years of experience in content management, digital publishing, editorial operations, or a related field.
  • Experience publishing and managing content within a website content management system (CMS) and/or digital asset management (DAM) system is required.
  • Hands-on production experience in photography, videography and/or editorial writing is strongly preferred.
  • Expertise in how to optimize digital content for audiences and channels, including SEO, accessibility, and AI-driven search and discoverability.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple content streams, deadlines, and stakeholders at once.
  • Ability to build, document and manage clear workflows and identify opportunities to improve processes.
  • Comfortable learning and working across multiple content management systems, digital platforms and project management tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across editorial, photo, video, social media and other communications teams.
  • Qualified candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize and publish news articles and press releases to redcross.org, including creating key publishing elements such as metadata, URLs, and alternative text.
  • Help execute redcross.org editorial strategy, partnering with our editorial lead, authors and analyst to identify opportunities to increase content visibility through search, AI-driven discovery, and other referral sources.
  • Assist the national photography and video teams in optimizing, publishing, organizing and sharing visual assets across channels and digital asset management (DAM) systems, including the National Photo Library and national YouTube channel.
  • Support asset organization, metadata, tagging, rights information and other practices that improve asset discoverability and usability.
  • Provide operational and surge support to the national photography team during major disaster responses and other high-volume periods.
  • Serve as an “air-traffic controller” for content during major national disaster operations, helping coordinate the sharing of content being collected across multiple teams and channels.
  • Identify opportunities to repurpose and share content across channels, connecting teams with relevant stories, visuals and other assets.
  • Create content workflows, documentation and processes to make publishing and content sharing more efficient and consistent.
  • Occasionally assist with planning and pre-production for national photography shoots, including meeting with internal stakeholders, gathering information and materials, and coordinating shoot logistics.
