About The Position

The Associated Press seeks a Consumer Product Strategist for AP News based in New York City. This role is responsible for understanding the audience of AP News and using those insights to shape the future of digital products and user experience. The strategist will analyze user behavior across web and app platforms, translating findings into actionable recommendations for product strategy, experimentation, and long-term growth. This position is at the intersection of consumer insights, product strategy, and analytics, requiring a curious individual comfortable with data and skilled in communicating insights to various stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional experience in digital product analytics, product strategy, growth analytics, audience insights, user analytics or a related role
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as communications, journalism, Data Science, Marketing or equivalent professional experience
  • Effective communication skills and ability to be a strong storyteller who can take complex or ambiguous data and turn it into a clear narrative about consumers, products and business opportunities
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze user behavior, product performance and using those insights to influence product or business decisions
  • Curiosity, consumer empathy and sound judgment to open-ended questions and comfort in making recommendations
  • Strong SQL skills and working knowledge of Python or R for querying large datasets, identifying trends and building repeatable analyses
  • Hands-on experience with analytics and visualization tools such as BigQuery, Hex, Omni and Looker
  • Experience with Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager, including event tracking and measurement strategy
  • Comfort collaborating with product managers, engineers, editorial teams and other cross-functional stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using consumer insights to influence the strategy or development of a digital consumer product
  • Experience in digital publishing, media subscription, marketplace or other content-driven consumer products
  • Background working with BigQuery or other large-scale data warehousing platforms
  • Familiarity with content recommendation systems or personalization strategies
  • Experience with experimental design and A/B testing platforms

Responsibilities

  • Analyze how audiences discover, navigate and engage with AP News by building repeatable analyses and dashboards in BigQuery, Looker, Omni and Hex to identify patterns in user behavior, feature adoption, engagement and friction points
  • Connect behavioral data across journeys, funnels, features and retention to explain not just what is happening, but why
  • Support tracking implementation in Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager to ensure the right data is captured to answer critical product and business questions
  • Translate complex product and user data into clear recommendations that inform product priorities, audience growth and monetization decisions
  • Identify strategic opportunities to improve user journeys, feature design and engagement funnels to deepen loyalty
  • Development and evaluate product experiments and A/B tests, turning results into actionable product recommendations
  • Build trusted relationships across product, editorial and technical teams to bring consumer insights into product decisions
  • Translate business questions into meaningful analysis and clearly communicate what the data means
  • Collaborate with technical teams to ensure data infrastructure supports critical decisions
