About The Position

SpaceX is hiring a Construction Superintendent, Structural to lead a self-performing construction team building launch sites, factories, test stands, and AI superclusters. The superintendent oversees foremen and their crews, leads work in the field, sets expectations, develops team members, addresses performance issues, and removes barriers to work. The scope includes structural steel, ironwork, metal deck, framing, elevated slabs, flooring systems, roofing, carpentry, and general building construction, including crane and rigging work to raise structures and welding of structural steel. This is a mobile construction-team role, initially assigned to Memphis, Tennessee / Southaven, Mississippi, with future assignments requiring relocation to other U.S. construction sites. Per diem is provided while on assignment. The role is part of a 24/7 operation and may involve rotating shifts, night shifts, weekends, holidays, and extended hours. Night-shift assignments receive a differential for hours worked during off-nominal hours. Work takes place in industrial environments and can involve noise, heavy equipment, excavations, energized electrical systems, tight spaces, outdoor conditions, and work at heights. The superintendent is responsible for safe, code-compliant, high-quality structural construction; schedule and budget performance; coordination with other trades; field documentation; progress and risk reporting; and maintaining structural integrity and reliability for data center operations. The position requires pre-employment drug screening, random drug/alcohol testing, and pre- and post-employment background checks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading structural construction teams, including supervising foremen.
  • At least 3 years of direct hands-on experience in structural installations, such as structural steel, ironwork, metal deck, framing, elevated slabs, flooring systems, roofing, or general building construction.
  • Willingness to travel to assigned projects and relocate to other U.S. construction sites as assignments change.
  • Willingness to work any shift, extended hours, and/or holidays, including rotating shifts, nights, and weekends.
  • Willingness to work in industrial environments with exposure to noise, heavy equipment, excavations, and energized electrical systems.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds or more and perform physically demanding tasks outdoors, indoors, in tight conditions, and/or at heights, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to complete pre-employment drug screening, random drug/alcohol testing, and pre- and post-employment background checks.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading large self-performing crews on industrial or mission-critical structural projects.
  • Direct hands-on experience with industrial processes or heavy structural projects.
  • Postsecondary diploma or degree in construction management, structural or civil engineering, or a related field.
  • Track record on data centers, hyperscale facilities, or similar mission-critical structural construction.
  • Familiarity with Memphis-area building codes, IBC, AISC, OSHA steel erection standards, and industrial permitting.
  • Experience with Procore, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, MS Project, or similar tools on complex infrastructure work.
  • Strong grasp of structural critical path, sequencing, and coordination with electrical, mechanical, and civil trades through commissioning.
  • Understanding of data center structural requirements, including steel frames, elevated slabs, flooring systems, roofing, and load paths designed for heavy equipment and 24/7 operation.
  • History of leading diverse crews to deadlines while maintaining collaboration and safety.
  • Working knowledge of fall protection, crane and rigging, and structural welding safety, and a record of building a safety culture on regulated sites.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills on technically complex structural work.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, and Project.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee foremen and, through them, a large self-performing structural crew installing structural steel, ironwork, metal deck, framing, elevated slabs, flooring systems, roofing, and general building structure.
  • Oversee crane and rigging work used to raise structures and welding of structural steel.
  • Set expectations for safety, quality, schedule, and conduct, and hold foremen and crews accountable.
  • Remove obstacles to crew productivity, including material availability, access, sequencing, trade coordination, and decisions.
  • Recommend promotions, role changes, and corrective action based on performance.
  • Plan and run night-shift assignments, including extended hours, within a 24/7 operation.
  • Maintain SpaceXSI quality and reliability standards, including code compliance and structural integrity required for data center operations.
  • Track daily progress and maintain logs, red-line drawings, and as-built documentation for building structures.
  • Develop and maintain an aggressive construction schedule, delivering work on time and within budget.
  • Champion the safety program and a zero-incident culture for steel erection, crane and rigging work, work at heights, welding, and heavy structural work.
  • Resolve on-site material delays, technical conflicts, sequencing issues, and trade coordination challenges while protecting structural integrity and code compliance.
  • Inspect work for compliance with local regulations, building codes, safety protocols, and SpaceXSI quality standards.
  • Report progress, structural construction metrics, and risks to senior leadership.
  • Relocate with the mobile team as assignments change, beginning in Memphis, TN / Southaven, MS.
