About The Position

CME Associates, Inc. (CME), an engineering technology firm providing construction materials evaluation and technical support services, is hiring a Construction Special Inspector. The role provides inspections and material testing on commercial construction projects throughout the Greater Elmira, New York area, helping ensure compliance at construction sites.

The inspector performs field tests and inspections, interprets construction drawings, specifications, and test results, and completes work according to established standards. The position also involves documenting and reporting results, maintaining daily field records and reports, communicating with project managers, and completing continuing education for ACI and ICC certifications.

Requirements

• High school diploma.
• At least one International Code Council (ICC) certification in a listed Special Inspector category: reinforced concrete, soils, masonry, spray-applied fireproofing, steel and bolt, or steel and weld; or ACI Grade 1 certification; or an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate through a State Board.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with managers, teammates, and clients through clear communication and proactive progress reporting.
• Valid driver's license that must be maintained.

Nice To Haves

• A degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Geology, or a related field is described as ideal.

Responsibilities

• Perform tests and inspections for soils, concrete, asphalt, reinforced concrete, masonry, welding and bolting, fireproofing and firestopping, geotechnical investigations, and other areas.
• Read construction drawings and specifications and correctly interpret test results.
• Complete assignments accurately and in accordance with established standards.
• Record and report test results clearly and concisely.
• Communicate regularly with project managers.
• Complete field data records and associated reports daily.
• Prepare for and complete continuing education for certifications through the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and International Code Council (ICC).
