Construction Special Inspector
About The Position
CME Associates, Inc. is an engineering technology firm providing construction materials evaluation and technical support services, including geotechnical engineering, special inspections, geological sciences, subsurface exploration, and investigative engineering. The Construction Special Inspector performs inspections and material testing on commercial construction projects throughout the Greater Buffalo, New York area, helping ensure compliance with applicable requirements and standards. The role involves testing and inspecting construction materials and systems, interpreting drawings and specifications, documenting results, communicating with project managers, and maintaining certifications through continuing education.
Requirements
- High school diploma.
- At least one ICC certification in a listed Special Inspector category (reinforced concrete, soils, masonry, spray-applied fireproofing, steel and bolt, or steel and weld), or ACI Grade 1 certification, or an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate through a State Board.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with managers, teammates, and clients through clear communication and proactive progress reporting.
- Valid driver's license, which must be maintained.
Nice To Haves
- A degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Geology, or a related field is described as ideal.
Responsibilities
- Perform tests and inspections for soils, concrete, asphalt, reinforced concrete, masonry, welding and bolting, fireproofing and firestopping, geotechnical investigations, and other areas.
- Read construction drawings and specifications and correctly interpret test results.
- Complete assignments accurately and in accordance with established standards.
- Record and report test results clearly and concisely.
- Communicate regularly with project managers.
- Complete field data records and associated reports daily.
- Prepare for and complete continuing education for certifications through the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and International Code Council (ICC).
