About The Position

This internship or co-op opportunity is designed for passionate problem-solvers who thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and are eager to learn about the construction project lifecycle. ARCO Design/Build, a top-ranked design/build construction firm, is seeking individuals to gain exposure to the full lifecycle of a project while working alongside experienced professionals. This role offers a concept-to-completion approach, providing hands-on experience in various aspects of project management, from initial concept through final delivery. Interns/co-ops will learn about estimating, scheduling, design meetings, reporting, buyout, permitting, shop drawing review, billing, job site visits, and business development. The program aims to equip participants with valuable industry knowledge and a strong foundation for a future in construction.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in an accredited Civil, Mechanical, Architectural, Construction Management, Building Science, or Construction Engineering undergraduate or graduate program (other related engineering majors will be considered)
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • A strong work ethic

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Co-op or Intern experience in construction preferred, but not required
  • GPA 3.0 or higher preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Gain exposure to the full lifecycle of a project from initial concept through final delivery.
  • Learn to describe project proposals and assign accurate dollar values through estimating and takeoffs.
  • Assist in creating timelines for subcontractors/trades activities.
  • Attend meetings with the owner and design team, including structural engineers and architects.
  • Prepare weekly reports, document progress, and track meeting action items.
  • Observe how Design/Build Managers lead by joining project calls and site meetings.
  • Send bid instructions, schedules, and drawings to subcontractors, and evaluate proposals to assist with awarding subcontracts.
  • Complete and submit permit applications with necessary documents and fees to city/county/fire authorities.
  • Receive and route submittals to DBMs and communicate approvals to subcontractors.
  • Learn about subcontracts, change orders, pay requests, and pay applications.
  • Visit job sites with DBMs to monitor project progress.
  • Attend offsite trainings and biweekly learning sessions.
  • Gain exposure to client relationship building and industry-wide business development strategies.
