About The Position

EMD-Batimo is seeking a Construction Project Director to act as a strategic and operational leader responsible for the overall performance of projects. This role involves supervising project managers and site teams, ensuring consistency in practices, controlling risks, costs, and schedules, and serving as the escalation point for major issues. The ideal candidate will be adept at prioritizing tasks, executing multiple mandates independently, and rigorously resolving daily challenges. The targeted project profile includes relevant experience in multi-story construction and managing projects worth $20 million or more.

Requirements

  • A professional engineering degree or a bachelor's degree in construction engineering or a college diploma (DEC) in architectural technology or civil engineering, or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar position with project management or on a construction site
  • Ability to manage 2-3 projects simultaneously
  • Advanced financial analysis skills
  • Strong adaptability and change management skills
  • Communication and organizational skills
  • Required technical skills associated with the job
  • Ability to work in a team and under pressure (speed of execution)
  • Relationship management, leadership, negotiation skills, and conflict resolution skills are essential
  • Ability to work rigorously and independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), MS-Project, and Adobe

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the overall performance of multiple projects (costs, schedule, quality, risks)
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for projects (bi-monthly)
  • Conduct structured weekly project reviews with project managers
  • Conduct structured monthly project reviews with management
  • Act as an escalation point for major issues (costs, deadlines, contractual)
  • Maintain an active presence on the construction site, including weekly visits
  • Oversee budget monitoring and validate monthly cost reports
  • Approve change management and major claims strategies
  • Participate in or lead high-stakes or complex contract negotiations
  • Ensure compliance with billing and cost control practices
  • Analyze and negotiate subcontractor and supplier bids
  • Participate in preparing the scope of work for the request for proposals (subcontractor)
  • Analyze and approve subcontracts and extras
  • Ensure compliance with contractual requirements: subcontracts and client contracts
  • Supervise, support, coach, and evaluate project managers
  • Identify training needs and participate in skills development
  • Ensure the consistent application of EMD-Batimo methods, procedures, and standards
  • Act as the client's primary point of contact for major issues
  • Maintain a proactive and trusting relationship with clients and professionals
  • Participate in key strategic meetings and project launches
  • Participate in on-site meetings with professionals
  • Support project managers during sensitive or conflictual situations
  • Oversee project risk management
  • Ensure rigorous handling of non-conformities
  • Ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory, and internal standards requirements
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of project management
  • Monitor health and safety (HS) issues and implement the prevention program
  • Participate in the planning of upcoming projects
  • Collaborate with management on strategic directions, methods, and innovations
