About The Position

S&ME is seeking a full-time, entry-level Construction Materials Engineering Technician to join our Construction Services team in Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, starting their day outdoors, and is eager to learn and grow their technical skills. As a technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring construction projects meet quality and safety standards. You will gain practical field experience from day one, starting with concrete sampling and testing, and expanding into soils, asphalt, and masonry. The position involves performing field and lab tests, maintaining equipment, documenting findings, and managing data. You will also conduct inspections per IBC codes. The role requires working outdoors year-round in varying conditions, with new sites and crews providing a dynamic environment. Paid, on-the-job training and support for ACI and ICC certifications are provided.

Requirements

High School diploma/GED
Willingness to learn and obtain certifications (ACI and ICC)
Strong work ethic and team mindset
Strong attention to detail
Effective communication skills in English (speaking, reading, writing)
Basic math skills with an understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
Understanding of a fluctuating weekly schedule and occasional travel
Valid U.S. driver's license with an acceptable driving record
Ability to safely operate a company-assigned vehicle
Willingness to complete a background check, driving record check, and drug screen upon offer of employment
Valid employment eligibility (I-9)

Responsibilities

Perform field and lab tests on construction materials such as concrete, soils, asphalt, and masonry.
Maintain field and lab equipment.
Ensure accurate and complete reporting of test results and findings.
Conduct inspections per IBC codes.
Manage data using Metafield®.
Work outdoors on active construction sites in varying weather conditions.
Travel to project sites as needed.
Operate a company-assigned vehicle safely.
