About The Position

This is an entry-level position where the successful candidate must have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The candidate will work with the crew on the construction of both aerial and buried coax, copper, and fiber optic cables, according to company construction practices and procedures. This role requires the ability to work aloft utilizing climbing gaffs, ladders, and mechanical lifts, and to operate company vehicles and equipment including bucket trucks, forklifts, backhoes/trenchers, and other machines. The position involves working outdoors in various elements and requires reading network design prints, maintaining daily log sheets and inventory paperwork, and adhering to NESC construction guidelines and company safety policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Must possess a positive attitude, a strong work-ethic, and a desire to learn
  • DOT medical card (can get one after receiving an offer)
  • Overnight travel required
  • Physical capabilities including climbing, lifting, and carrying a minimum of 75 lbs.
  • Must maintain physical fitness to meet weight limit requirements for ladders and lifts and be able to meet the demands of a labor-intensive job
  • Must be able to take direction verbally and written and be able to work rapidly under time pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound judgments and ethical decisions
  • Available to work after business hours as required, i.e. storm damage
  • Regular, punctual, and consistent attendance

  • Pole climbing certification

Responsibilities

  • Competent pole and ladder climbing skills
  • Works aloft utilizing climbing gaffs, ladders, and mechanical lifts
  • Operates company vehicles and equipment including bucket trucks, fork lifts, backhoes/trenchers, and other machines
  • Works outdoors in the elements
  • Reads network design prints
  • Accurately maintains daily log sheet and inventory paperwork
  • Knowledge of NESC construction guidelines and Armstrong construction practices
  • Follows all Armstrong safety policies
  • Maintains vehicles and machines to Armstrong standards
  • Other assigned tasks
