About The Position

Great Place Construction (GPC), a private construction firm specializing in commercial building projects, is seeking students or new graduates for an internship in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Interns will gain experience in the construction industry by working in both field and office settings and learning from experienced construction managers. The role offers advancement opportunities for people who want to grow with the company and explore a construction career. The field track uses a hybrid arrangement, with part of the week spent onsite for hands-on and technical training and some time working from home as an assistant to a superintendent. The office track uses a hybrid or work-from-home arrangement, with in-person project management and estimating training as appropriate to the intern and their learning needs. The remainder of the week may involve assisting a project manager with schedule management or other project or enterprise management duties. The expected schedule is approximately 20 hours per week.

Requirements

General knowledge of commercial construction principles and practices, or a desire to explore construction as a potential career.
Computer proficiency or familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite.
Desire to learn and advance.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Good driving record and a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

For the field track, spend part of the week onsite for hands-on and technical training.
Assist the superintendent as needed, including helping communicate with subcontractors, use the project management platform, and manage the superintendent’s schedule to improve productivity.
For the office track, participate in project management and estimating training, in person as appropriate.
Assist the project manager with schedule management and other project or enterprise management duties.
