The purpose of this classification is to supervise and participate in manual labor tasks associated with construction projects for repair and installation of City infrastructure within any assigned department and to assist with maintenance efforts of the same. This role oversees and supervises a medium-sized work crew primarily engaged in construction, fabrication, and installation of City infrastructure. The supervisor ensures staff are aware of and follow all City safety policies and procedures, mitigates on-the-job hazards, and ensures proper personal protective equipment is used. They also supervise, direct, and evaluate assigned staff, review timecards for accuracy, and ensure work effort is appropriated to support job completion according to schedule. The role involves formulating work plans, assigning tasks, obtaining necessary equipment, tools, and materials, and training staff in manual work functions. Inspections of work sites, equipment, and completed projects are crucial, as is maintaining inventory and preparing reports. Communication via telephone and two-way radio is also a key function. Specific duties may vary depending on assignment to the Public Works or Water and Sewer Departments, including tasks like installing storm drainage structures, pouring concrete, performing asphalt repairs, installing water distribution mains, and utilizing computerized maintenance management software.
