About The Position

These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP). Duration This position is funded for up to 1500 total hours. ??Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is a unit of the National Park Service in metropolitan Atlanta. The park preserves 48-river miles and over 5,000 acres. The park is home to the biodiversity of the Georgia Piedmont and hundreds of archeological sites as well as historic structures, a historic farm, Civil War resources, and paper mill ruins. The park has 15 separate units and is one of the most visited parks with annual visitation of over 2 million.

Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree with minimum additional experience of 10 year(s)
  • Comprehensive, intensive, practical knowledge of, and skill in applying a wide range of technical engineering and construction control concepts, principles, practices, and precedents in order to perform work involving the planning, execution, monitoring, and control of construction, repair, rehabilitation, and accessibility projects within the National Park Service.
  • Ability to apply knowledge to provide comprehensive advisory and technical services on substantive projects
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Teams, MS Outlook, MS SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat

Responsibilities

  • Perform work involving the management and control of a variety of substantive and complex construction and repair/rehabilitation projects.
  • Represent the NPS and work within a multidisciplinary team of architects, engineers, conservators, preservation specialists, historians, environmental specialists, natural resource specialists, and technical support personnel to plan, execute, monitor, and track the completion of park and partnership projects.
  • Provide on-site inspection and coordination of construction and engineering work to ensure projects are carried out according to plans, specifications, and accepted practices.
  • Oversee and monitor construction progress, working closely with project inspectors and technical representatives to identify issues at any stage and implement corrective measures in collaboration with designers, engineers, and contract administrators.
  • Conduct ongoing analysis to verify that projects remain on schedule and within projected costs.
  • Prepare and track cost reports related to contract modifications and change orders to identify deficiencies and initiate corrective actions when needed.
  • Provide guidance to project supervisors and technical representatives to ensure contractors meet their obligations in accordance with contract requirements, including scheduling, workmanship, and material standards.
  • Monitor contract costs, recommend budget adjustments or reprogramming when appropriate, and ensure that all changes to drawings and specifications are accurately recorded for inclusion in final ?as-built? documents.
  • Review complex project scopes, designs, and estimates.
  • Participate in design conferences and studies.
  • Ensure plans meet construction standards, codes, and site conditions.
  • Identify practical solutions to anticipated challenges.
  • Attend key pre-construction meetings.
  • Coordinate construction activities with contractors and external agencies.
  • Provide technical support for accessibility initiatives and the treatment of historic structures.
  • Operate park vehicle for travel needed to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Perform administrative duties related to time keeping.
  • Maintain National Park Service property, such as computers, cameras, printers and other hardware or software needed for the position.
  • Perform work in Microsoft Office Suite with proficiency.
