Construction Accounting Manager
About The Position
Residential General Contractor seeking an experienced Accounting Manager for a full-time position in Greater New Bedford. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in construction and knowledge of all elements of the home building process. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on accounting and financial management experience, with strong expertise in construction-specific software and processes like BuilderTrend, QuickBooks management, job costing, and AIA billing. This is a great opportunity to lead our financial operations and work directly with an established team of project managers, site supervisors, and company leadership supporting award-winning projects designed by New England's premier architecture firms.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years specifically within residential construction or general contracting.
- Proficiency in construction accounting software (e.g., BuilderTrend, Bill.com, QuickBooks Premier/Online, or similar) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (or equivalent professional experience).
- Active Driver's License and daily access to a vehicle for occasional travel between regional offices.
- References from past employers and/or industry partners.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate project cost accounting, monitor job profitability, and partner with Project Managers to analyze budget variances.
- Manage progress billings, owner invoices, AIA billing formats (G702/G703), and collections.
- Oversee subcontracts, invoice processing, insurance compliance, vendor payments, and annual 1099 reporting.
- Process internal payroll, manage certified payroll records where required, and track employee benefits and paid time off.
- Reconcile bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and credit cards; prepare month-end/year-end close statements; and compile monthly financial reports for executive leadership.
- Monitor daily cash flow, project future liquidity needs, and manage vendor/trade line relations.
- Coordinate with external CPA firms for annual tax preparation, manage workers' comp audits, and maintain state licensing and insurance documentation.
