Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Law from a recognized university. A common law degree or experience is an asset.
  • Member of a recognized Bar or equivalent.
  • 1 to 5 years of experience in commercial or corporate law.
  • Ability to prioritize files and manage time effectively.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Availability to work outside of office hours, as needed.
  • Excellent team spirit and collaboration skills, while demonstrating autonomy.
  • Ability to manage risks and make legal decisions with confidence.
  • Experience with commercial and corporate contracts, as well as labor and employment law, is an asset.
  • Knowledge of maritime law, chartering, or maritime operations is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in French and English (oral and written).
  • A strong sense of professional ethics and responsibility.
  • Knowledge of English is necessary for this role due to daily interactions with colleagues, clients, and partners who are mostly located outside Quebec and in order to understand regulatory requirements and technical instructions and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Deputy Head of Legal in various legal matters.
  • Structure and implement international business and corporate operations.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate contracts with clients, suppliers, as well as shipbuilding and financing contracts.
  • Provide legal assistance on labor law and immigration matters.
  • Assess legal risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Analyze applicable laws and regulations and advise operational divisions on them.
