The Computer Systems Analyst I provides several phases of systems analysis for systems whose nature has already been determined. The role uses established fact-finding approaches, knowledge of pertinent work processes and procedures, and familiarity with related computer programming practices, system software, and computer equipment. Initial assignments are designed to build practical experience applying systems analysis techniques and procedures. The analyst carries out assigned fact-finding and analyses, usually involving a single activity or routine problem, and applies established procedures when system scope, feasibility, computer equipment, and programming language have already been decided. The analyst may help a higher-level systems analyst prepare detailed specifications for programmers, research and resolve routine user problems by modifying existing systems when solutions follow clear precedents, and prepare cost and deadline estimates for review. The role works independently within established practices, adapting guides to specific situations and resolving problems or deviations. The analyst seeks advice when precedents are unclear or unavailable and carries out objectives, priorities, and deadlines set by the supervisor. The position may supervise technicians and others assisting with specific assignments. Duties may vary across contracts and may include other duties as required.
