About The Position

Schrödinger is seeking a Computational Chemist to join the Schrödinger Therapeutics Group (STG) and contribute to the discovery of therapeutics. The STG includes more than 60 scientists across drug design, modeling, computational and medicinal chemistry, crystallography, biochemistry, and biology, and is supported by more than 100 software developers and engineers and large-scale computing infrastructure. The role focuses on target druggability and structure-based drug design. The successful candidate will support active drug discovery projects, assess target tractability by integrating structural, computational, biophysical, and biological evidence, and work with cross-functional experts to develop strategies for promising targets. The position also partners with internal software development teams to improve Schrödinger’s drug discovery technologies and shares knowledge across the STG. Schrödinger offers competitive salary, equity-based compensation, healthcare with dental and vision coverage, a 401(k), pre-tax commuter benefits, a flexible work schedule, parental leave, and more than a month of paid vacation time. The company describes its culture as relaxed and engaged and offers company-wide events. The estimated base salary range is $100,000–$180,000; actual compensation depends on factors including experience, education, degrees, market data, and business needs.

Requirements

  • PhD in Computational Chemistry, Structural Biology, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in structure-based drug design.
  • Ability to critically interpret protein structures in the context of ligand binding.
  • Training in or familiarity with modern computational and experimental approaches to structure prediction and cryptic pocket identification.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Postdoctoral experience and/or at least one year of industry experience.
  • Experience in structural biology, computationally driven lead optimization, virtual ligand screening, generative structure prediction, or cryptic pocket identification.
  • Cross-functional training and experience in both computational chemistry and experimental structural biology or experimental hit-finding environments.

Responsibilities

  • Support active drug discovery projects as a computational chemist or modeler.
  • Contribute to new-target selection by integrating structural, computational, biophysical, and biological evidence into concise target-tractability assessments.
  • Identify key uncertainties in target assessments and propose experiments or calculations to resolve them.
  • Partner with cross-functional experts to develop strategies for promising targets, including investigating alternative conformations or potential transient binding sites.
  • Work with internal software development teams to improve Schrödinger’s drug discovery technologies.
  • Share knowledge with the Schrödinger Therapeutics Group.
