About The Position

Freddie Mac is seeking an experienced and talented internal investigator professional to join its highly collaborative Ethics and Compliance team, housed in Freddie Mac’s Enterprise Risk Division. The Compliance-Ethics Investigations Lead is responsible for investigations related to fraud, compliance, and ethical concerns within the organization. They will also collaborate with various departments to ensure effective risk management and compliance with relevant laws, regulations, policies and procedures. The Ethics team within the Compliance Risk department is responsible for development, implementation and evaluation of a variety of programs that support the compliance, ethics and ethical culture initiatives at Freddie Mac. This includes implementing elements of a best-in-class Ethics program, providing oversight to ensure compliance risk related to Governmental and Conservator obligations, laws and regulations are identified, addressed and mitigated, reviewing Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSAs) to understand how process, risk and controls are impacting first line compliance with obligations, and providing advisory services and effective challenge to first line on risks that could impact Freddie Mac. The team also collaborates and coordinates within Enterprise Risk to provide a holistic view and a lens into the interconnectivity of risks, and engages with FHFA to ensure collaboration and transparency.

Requirements

  • College degree or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of overall experience in ethics, compliance, investigations, and risk management.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to think critically.
  • Proficiency in using compliance tools in investigations and daily work.
  • Strong understanding of ethical risk areas including conflicts of interest, workplace conduct, misuse of information, and integrity breaches.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare executive ready investigation summaries.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound judgment and discretion and sensitive matters.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate internal allegations and complaints of violations of Freddie Mac policy or applicable law.
  • Interview witnesses, gather and review relevant documents, analyze and synthesize the information gathered to determine the facts, and assess witness credibility.
  • Prepare concise investigation reports and make recommendations to management for remedial action.
  • Update the case tracking system and assist with reporting and analytics.
  • Collaborate with other investigative units within Freddie Mac as needed to support cross-functional investigations and/or provide surge support.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources and/or Legal on corrective actions arising from internal investigations.
  • Ensure investigations are conducted with integrity, objectivity, and in compliance with enterprise and regulatory standards.
  • Provide clear, concise summaries and recommendations to executive leadership, Legal, HR, Audit, and Risk partners.
  • Partner with HR, Legal, Audit, and Compliance to ensure consistent and defensible outcomes aligned to corporate policies.
  • Maintain accurate, complete investigation records in the case management system.
  • Continue growth and adherence to investigative excellence standards.
  • Stay updated on evolving financial crime trends, regulatory changes, and industry best practices.
  • Support, participate, and identify operational improvements and enhancements through daily work and special projects.
