About The Position

This summer internship program offers a 10-week immersive experience in the world of Barclays, focusing on risk management within the Compliance function. Interns will gain hands-on experience, take on meaningful responsibilities, and build connections while learning about the company's unique culture. The program is designed for individuals in their penultimate year who are eager to grow, learn, and make an impact. The Compliance function at Barclays is crucial for ensuring adherence to regulations, maintaining internal standards, and protecting the bank's reputation. It involves research, data analysis, risk identification, and providing advisory services across all business areas. Interns will contribute to real projects, research and investigate, gather and analyze complex data, identify risks, evaluate threats, and predict trends. They will also be involved in surveillance, control, product design, and implementation, acting as trusted advisors within the global business.

Requirements

  • Must be graduating between December 2027 and June 2028.
  • Must have a GPA of 3.2 or above.

Responsibilities

  • Guiding the business’ adherence to the Compliance risk management framework.
  • Providing advisory services to colleagues about regulation related to specific products and services.
  • Utilizing data and analytics to proactively monitor and influence the business Compliance risk landscape.
  • Developing Compliance risk insight and understanding, including Laws, Rules and Regulations, Financial Crime and Conduct.
  • Training of business stakeholders.
  • Performing prescribed activities in a timely manner and to a high standard, consistently driving continuous improvement.
  • Developing technical expertise in work area, acting as an advisor where appropriate.
  • Partnering with other functions and business areas.
  • Escalating breaches of policies / procedure appropriately.
  • Taking responsibility for embedding new policies/ procedures adopted due to risk mitigation.
  • Advising and influencing decision making within own area of expertise.
  • Taking ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work owned or contributed to.
  • Delivering work and areas of responsibility in line with relevant rules, regulation and codes of conduct.
  • Maintaining and continually building an understanding of how own sub-function integrates with function, alongside knowledge of the organisations products, services and processes within the function.
  • Demonstrating understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
  • Making evaluative judgements based on the analysis of factual information, paying attention to detail.
  • Resolving problems by identifying and selecting solutions through the application of acquired technical experience and will be guided by precedents.
  • Guiding and persuading team members and communicating complex / sensitive information.
  • Acting as contact point for stakeholders outside of the immediate function, while building a network of contacts outside team and external to the organisation.
