About The Position
AmTrust Financial Services is seeking a Complex General Liability Claims Specialist to support its New York Labor Law team. The role evaluates coverage issues and risk-transfer opportunities and ensures that claims are appropriately investigated, experts and counsel are selected and used where needed, and negotiation strategies are appropriate. The position reports to a line of business executive and may require periodic travel to attend mediations, trials, or related meetings.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in insurance claims management or a related field.
- At least seven years of experience handling or litigating complex commercial general liability claims.
- Proficient computer skills to navigate a paperless claim file system.
- High level of technical claims and legal knowledge and skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to interact professionally at a high level with internal and external parties.
- Ability to adapt to changing situations, requirements, or priorities.
- Ability to influence others effectively without damaging relationships.
- Strong negotiation skills.
Nice To Haves
- Strong experience handling New York Labor Law claims.
- Strong experience handling Employers Liability/Workers Compensation 1B claims.
- Home designated home state adjuster license.
- CPCU designation or AIC certification.
Responsibilities
- Identify potential risks and manage timely reserves effectively.
- Evaluate coverage issues and risk-transfer opportunities.
- Ensure appropriate investigation of underlying facts and circumstances; retain and use proper experts where necessary; select and utilize appropriate counsel; and employ a proper negotiation strategy.
- Communicate exposures effectively to internal and external parties.
- Formulate an appropriate resolution strategy to achieve the best total outcome.
- Travel periodically to attend mediations, trials, and/or related meetings, as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
