About The Position

AmTrust Financial Services is seeking a Complex Claim Specialist to handle complex professional liability claims, with an emphasis on legal malpractice claims. The role may be based in one of the company’s claims offices, with the possibility of working remotely. The specialist evaluates coverage, assesses risk transfer opportunities, analyzes liability and damages, manages litigation, negotiates resolutions, and ensures claim files are appropriately reserved. Periodic travel is required to attend mediations, trials, or related meetings. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

At least 7 years of experience handling professional liability claims.
Proficient computer skills to navigate a paperless claim file system.
High level of technical claim skills and legal knowledge.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to adapt to changing situations, requirements, and priorities.
Ability to influence others effectively while maintaining relationships.
Negotiation skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Good time management skills.

Responsibilities

Recognize exposures and ensure reserves are appropriate and timely.
Evaluate coverage issues and risk transfer opportunities.
Conduct thorough, independent investigations and use available resources to address gaps in understanding, such as the internet, PACER, and experts.
Manage litigation through appropriate counsel selection, planning, budgeting, and collaboration with counsel.
Negotiate effectively.
Communicate exposures effectively to internal and external parties.
Formulate appropriate resolution strategies to achieve the best claim outcome.
Travel periodically to attend mediations, trials, and related meetings.
Perform other duties as assigned.
