Completions Engineer Trainee

ProPetro•Midland, TX

About The Position

The Completions Engineer Trainee (EIT) is a structured, time-bound development role designed to prepare entry-level engineers to progress into a Remote Completions Engineering position within six months. The role provides exposure to field-based and remote hydraulic fracturing operations, including wellsite operations, fluid systems, real-time frac monitoring, digital workflows, and remote monitoring systems. Trainees support Remote Completions Engineering operations and develop the data ownership, operational awareness, and decision-support capabilities needed for transition into that role.

Requirements

  • Willingness to learn both field-based and remote hydraulic fracturing operations, including spending time around active wellsite operations before progressing to ROC-based responsibilities.
  • Ability to maintain an organized digital workspace, accurate records, consistent file naming, and disciplined documentation practices.
  • Critical-thinking skills and ability to learn new technical systems, ask questions, identify issues, and support proactive and reactive problem solving.
  • Willingness to be assertive and speak up about unsafe work practices.
  • Teamwork, personal accountability, coachability, attention to detail, and commitment to continuous learning and self-improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related STEM discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a working understanding of hydraulic fracturing operations, including equipment function, job flow, stage execution, and field-to-ROC communication.
  • Participate in field shadowing to understand wellsite operations, safety practices, and crew workflows.
  • Gain exposure to fluid systems, lab testing procedures, and material performance and understand their effects on job execution, treatment quality, and remote monitoring.
  • Support real-time frac monitoring by accurately tracking stage progression, treatment data, pump schedules, material usage, and operational timelines.
  • Use engineering dashboards and reports to monitor pressure and rate trends, chemical performance, stage timing, and operational exceptions; communicate and escalate deviations in a timely manner.
  • Support Remote Completions Engineering operations through pre-job readiness, live job communication, shift handoffs, and disciplined issue escalation within the ROC environment.
  • Validate treatment inputs, material tracking, well information, and customer-specific documentation to maintain accurate and reliable operational data for ROC and field leadership.
  • Support post-job reporting and debrief preparation by organizing data, validating stage summaries, and documenting operational learnings for internal and customer-facing review.
  • Develop digital engineering habits, including structured data management, accurate system inputs, effective use of dashboards and reporting tools, and consistent documentation practices.
  • Develop proficiency in digital workflows and remote monitoring systems, demonstrating progression in data ownership, operational awareness, and decision-support capability for transition into a Remote Completions Engineering role.
  • Maintain and enforce compliance with all Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
