Completions Engineer Trainee

ProPetro Services, Inc•Midland, TX

About The Position

The Completions Engineer Trainee (EIT) is a structured, time-bound development role intended to prepare entry-level engineers to progress into a Remote Completions Engineering position within six months. The trainee learns field-based and remote hydraulic fracturing operations, including wellsite practices, fluid systems, real-time monitoring, operational data management, and digital workflows, before transitioning toward responsibilities in the Remote Operations Center (ROC). The position involves field shadowing and exposure to active wellsite operations, as well as supporting remote monitoring and job execution. The trainee contributes to pre-job readiness, live-job communication, shift handoffs, operational reporting, and issue escalation while maintaining accurate operational data and complying with Health, Safety, and Environment policies.

Requirements

  • Willingness to learn field-based and remote hydraulic fracturing operations, including spending time around active wellsite operations before moving into ROC-based responsibilities.
  • Ability to maintain an organized digital workspace, accurate records, consistent file naming, and disciplined documentation practices.
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to learn technical systems, ask questions, identify issues, and support proactive and reactive problem solving.
  • Willingness to be assertive and speak up about unsafe work practices.
  • Team player who demonstrates personal accountability, coachability, attention to detail, and commitment to continuous learning and self-improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related STEM discipline is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an understanding of hydraulic fracturing operations, including equipment function, job flow, stage execution, and field-to-ROC communication.
  • Participate in field shadowing to learn wellsite operations, safety practices, and crew workflows.
  • Gain exposure to fluid systems, lab testing procedures, and material performance and their impact on job execution, treatment quality, and remote monitoring.
  • Support real-time frac monitoring by tracking stage progression, treatment data, pump schedules, material usage, and operational timelines accurately.
  • Use engineering dashboards and reports to monitor pressure and rate trends, chemical performance, stage timing, and operational exceptions; communicate and escalate deviations promptly.
  • Support Remote Completions Engineering operations, including pre-job readiness, live-job communication, shift handoffs, and issue escalation in the ROC environment.
  • Validate treatment inputs, material tracking, well information, and customer-specific documentation to maintain operational data accuracy and integrity.
  • Support post-job reporting and debrief preparation by organizing data, validating stage summaries, and documenting operational learnings for internal and customer-facing review.
  • Develop digital engineering habits, including structured data management, accurate system inputs, effective use of dashboards and reporting tools, and consistent documentation.
  • Develop proficiency in digital workflows and remote monitoring systems, progressing in data ownership, operational awareness, and decision-support capability for transition to a Remote Completions Engineering role.
  • Maintain and enforce compliance with all Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
