About The Position

Acumen is seeking a Compensation Consultant for a short-term consulting opportunity. The ideal candidate will have experience setting up and implementing compensation benchmarks in a start-up, private sector, or non-profit organization. This role will report to the Director of Talent and is located in NYC (lower Manhattan). The work model is hybrid, requiring 3 days in the office per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). Acumen is a global organization focused on social innovation and investing in companies to address poverty. The Talent Team oversees the employee lifecycle globally and is responsible for the company's People strategy, culture, performance management, compensation, benefits, and learning and development. This specific project involves revising and updating compensation benchmarks for the US, and establishing new benchmarks for the UK and Canada. The incumbent will lead an organization-wide compensation benchmarking project, analyzing and comparing current pay structures against market data to ensure competitive and equitable salaries. This will involve using industry-specific surveys, job evaluations, peer group analysis, and salary survey data, with investment in comp data acquisition.

Requirements

  • 8–10 years in compensation, HR analytics, or finance.
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP).
  • HRIS proficiency.
  • Knowledge of compensation regulations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or Finance.

Responsibilities

  • Accessing Salary Surveys & Market Data databases to determine competitive pay for specific roles.
  • Job Analysis & Evaluation: Comparing internal roles based on accountabilities, skill requirements, and levels to match with external market data.
  • Pay Structure Design: Develop salary grades and bands that align with company compensation philosophy.
  • Total Rewards Strategy: Evaluating base salary, bonuses, and long-term incentives to create comprehensive compensation packages.
  • Pay Equity Studies: Analyzing compensation for gender or racial gaps to ensure compliance and fairness.
