About The Position

A leading international law firm is seeking a Compensation & Benefits Associate Attorney – Qualified Plans to join its Chicago office. This opportunity is ideal for an attorney interested in advising employers, plan sponsors, and corporate clients on sophisticated employee benefits, executive compensation, and ERISA matters, with a particular focus on qualified retirement and health and welfare plans.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of employee benefits, executive compensation, ERISA, or related tax experience
  • Experience advising clients on tax-qualified retirement plans and health and welfare plans, including plan design, administration, and ongoing compliance matters
  • Experience with ERISA compliance, regulatory matters, and employee benefits counseling
  • Experience advising on employee benefits issues arising in mergers & acquisitions and other corporate transactions
  • Experience drafting plan documents, participant disclosures, amendments, and related employee benefits documentation
  • Experience with compliance testing, IRS and Department of Labor filings, audits, and correction programs
  • Strong drafting, analytical, written, oral communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent academic credentials
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school required
  • Illinois bar admission required or ability to become admitted

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ESOP transactions and ERISA plan asset rules is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Advising employers, plan sponsors, and corporate clients on sophisticated employee benefits, executive compensation, and ERISA matters, with a particular focus on qualified retirement and health and welfare plans.
  • Advising clients on tax-qualified retirement plans and health and welfare plans, including plan design, administration, and ongoing compliance matters.
  • Providing counsel on ERISA compliance and regulatory matters.
  • Advising on employee benefits issues arising in mergers & acquisitions and other corporate transactions.
  • Drafting plan documents, participant disclosures, amendments, and related employee benefits documentation.
  • Managing compliance testing, IRS and Department of Labor filings, audits, and correction programs.
  • Handling ESOP transactions and ERISA plan asset rules.
