The Community Support Specialist (CSS) provides one-on-one, personalized support to adults with disabilities in their homes and communities. The role focuses on teaching, coaching, and working alongside individuals to build and maintain everyday life skills, confidence, choice-making, self-advocacy, and independence. Hands-on assistance is also provided when needed, based on each person's abilities, preferences, and individual needs. Support may include developing daily living skills such as cooking, shopping, and household management; budgeting, banking, and money management; community participation, hobbies, and recreation; health and wellness routines, organization, and everyday problem-solving. This is a community-based position, not a residential group home role. Specialists work independently with individuals and remain connected with a team of coordinators, supervisors, and fellow staff. The position is part-time, typically 20–25 hours per week, with flexible visits that vary according to individual needs. Staff typically maintain consistent weekly schedules with the people they support. Driving is required using a reliable, insured personal vehicle to travel within an approximately 30-mile service radius and transport individuals. Staff must complete accurate, timely electronic service notes and visit verification (EVV) for each visit using a smartphone app.
