About The Position

Hennick Humber Hospital is seeking two (2) Community Members to serve as volunteers on the Humber River Health Research Ethics Board (REB). The REB's purpose is to review proposed scientific research studies to ensure the protection of human participants, considering scientific, ethical, regulatory, and legal aspects. This role offers an opportunity to stay informed about emerging medical research. The time commitment involves approximately 4 hours per month for preparation and reviews, plus a two-hour monthly meeting, which may be virtual. Training and resources will be provided, and the board is transitioning to a new online submission system. This is a volunteer position with a two-year term.

Requirements

  • Lived experience with the healthcare system as a patient, family member, caregiver, and/or research participant, or interest in hospital-based research.
  • All types of diversity in terms of race, ethnicity, gender, gender orientation, skills, interests, languages, life circumstances, abilities, spiritual or religious affiliations, and more.
  • Adequate time and interest in volunteering.
  • Able to attend virtual meetings once a month on Thursday evenings from 5-7pm.
