The Community Health Nurse provides a full continuum of public health, prevention and health promotion services to enhance the optimal health, well-being and safety of clients by identifying and prioritizing wellness needs and developing and maintaining community partnerships to provide health promotion, advocacy, counseling, education, assessment, referral and intervention in a variety of community based settings in the rural remote setting. ABOUT BELLA COOLA, BC Bella Coola sits in a mountain valley at the head of the North Bentinck Channel, 500 km north of Vancouver, with a population of about 1800 people. The community is at the end of a long, truly magnificent fjord, on the mainland coast of British Columbia. Bella Coola General Hospital has 10 acute bed, 5 long term care beds and a 3 bed emergency department open 24/7, along with a laboratory, diagnostic imaging services, Telehealth, Mental Health, Public Health, Home & Community Support Services. Also within the hospital are a medical clinic and a pharmacy.

Requirements

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Training in public health nursing, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and practice of public health nursing theory, within a primary health care and population health approach.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the BCCNM standards for nursing practice.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of evidence based nursing practice related to childhood and adolescence.
  • Demonstrated ability to counsel clients and their families.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Working knowledge of immunization protocols.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use a computerized client care information system.
  • Demonstrated ability to critically read and utilize current health research in evidence based practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and interdependently and make sound nursing practice decisions.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
