Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for an Occupational Therapist to join the Rehabilitation Services team at Bella Coola Hospital in Bella Coola, BC. Apply today to join our team! Bella Coola sits in a mountain valley at the head of the North Bentinck Channel, 500 km north of Vancouver, with a population of about 1800 people. The community is at the end of a long, truly magnificent fjord, on the mainland coast of British Columbia. Bella Coola General Hospital has 10 acute bed, 5 residential beds and a 3 bed emergency department open 24/7, along with a laboratory, diagnostic imaging services, Telehealth, Mental Health, Public Health, Home & Community Support Services. Also within the hospital are a medical clinic and a pharmacy.

Requirements

• Current full registration as an Occupational Therapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).
• Degree in Occupational Therapy plus two years’ recent related experience and or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Valid BC Driver’s License & access to a personal vehicle required for local travel.
• Basic knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice related to designated clinical area.
• Broad knowledge of occupational therapy standardized tests and measures.
• Broad knowledge of occupational therapy theory and practice within a client and family centred model of care.
• Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
• Demonstrated ability to function as a team member.
• Demonstrated ability to teach and empower clients to assume control over their health.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and clients both one-on-one and in groups.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
• Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation.
• Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others in a complex health care environment.
• Demonstrated ability to recognize when referral to another health care professional is required.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
• Skilled in the use of equipment, and in the techniques appropriate for occupational therapy treatment.
• Basic computer literacy.

Responsibilities

• Provide occupational therapy services to acute inpatients, long term care residents and community clients to achieve quality client focused care and enable clients to develop healthy patterns of occupations.
• Perform duties including identifying and assessing client’s occupational performance issues utilizing an evidence-based approach, planning and implementing goal directed services, evaluating the effectiveness of the service, and preparing and maintaining records.
• Contribute to the organization and delivery of occupational therapy services, and participate in departmental/program quality assurance initiatives, meetings, research, and education.
