About The Position

Capital B Augusta is seeking a Community Engagement Ambassador to help build its newsroom in Augusta, Georgia. Capital B is a local nonprofit news organization committed to place-based, community-rooted reporting in Black areas nationwide. The ambassador will help ensure residents stay informed about their community and neighborhoods by serving as the newsroom’s eyes and ears, gathering feedback, building its presence, and contributing to reporting and other community-focused initiatives. This part-time role involves engaging with Augusta residents and leadership, developing and cultivating sources, identifying community needs and concerns, and generating story ideas. The ambassador will represent Capital B Augusta around town, help grow its newsletter audience, distribute print editions, and support offline initiatives such as radio and events. Compensation is $17 per hour for 20–25 hours per week.

Requirements

Know Augusta and be deeply interested in news about the city.
Be curious and comfortable striking up conversations with new people.
Have deep connections to Augusta leadership and residents.
Have a valid U.S. driver’s license.
Have reliable transportation to and from meetings, community events and programs, and interviews.

Responsibilities

Develop sources and learn about issues in and around Augusta.
Write, shoot video, and contribute to Capital B Augusta.
Share Capital B Augusta stories online and offline and help track feedback.
Help grow the email newsletter subscriber base.
Deliver the print edition of Capital B Augusta to community spaces across the city.
Assist with radio broadcasts by contributing content or helping to host.
Assist with outreach, promotion, and production of Capital B events.
Attend meetings with and without the Augusta Editor.
Engage with the community, note needs and concerns, and generate story ideas.
Attend meetings and community events and represent Capital B Augusta around town.
