About The Position

The Community Care Navigator position is a part-time, 20 hours per week (non-exempt, not benefit eligible) and will primarily take place at the NLC warehouse. The Community Care Navigator plays a vital role in connecting donated resources to individuals, families, schools, churches, and nonprofit organizations throughout the Chicagoland area. This position assists with community distributions, partner deliveries, food box distribution, warehouse operations, inventory support, volunteer engagement, and crisis response efforts. This position will assist the Director of Donations and Resources as needed. This is a hands-on warehouse position. Flexibility is essential, as priorities may change based on organizational needs, donor opportunities, partner requests, and emergency response efforts. Occasional evening, weekend, local travel, and emergency response work may be required. This position is in-person.

Requirements

  • Must be able to drive (25 years of age for NLC insurance).
  • Must be able to drive a NLC cargo/liftgate truck and be willing to travel locally for deliveries and partner support.
  • Must be able/willing to travel locally for deliveries etc.
  • Must be available to respond to crisis outside of regular scheduled hours when assigned.
  • Must become a Certified Mandated Reporter. Training provided.
  • Must clear all required background checks, must not have any pending cases.
  • Must have a working phone and phone number.
  • Cross-cultural competency and ability to work respectfully with diverse communities, volunteers, and partner organizations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must be willing to be trained and proficiently utilize database(s) and information tracking systems relevant to duties.
  • Must keep confidentiality of participant information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license, insurance, good driving record, access to a vehicle. Subject to driving background check.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and safely operate warehouse equipment or become certified.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience in warehouse operations, logistics, nonprofit services, community outreach, customer service, or direct service preferred.
  • Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends, and emergency response assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Support the distribution of food, household goods, hygiene products, and emergency resources to individuals, families, community partners, and nonprofit organizations throughout the Chicagoland area.
  • Pick, pack, stage, audit, and prepare orders and food box distributions to ensure timely and accurate delivery.
  • Assist with deliveries and transportation activities, including loading, unloading, and serving as a co-pilot when assigned.
  • Receive, sort, organize, store, and maintain donated products and inventory.
  • Support inventory management activities, including cycle counts, audits, transfers, system transactions, and inventory accuracy.
  • Assist with warehouse logistics operations, including receiving, staging, distribution preparation, and order fulfillment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment while performing general warehouse duties.
  • Support and supervise volunteer groups during warehouse service projects and special events.
  • Assist with crisis response efforts and urgent community resource distribution as needed.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community partners through professional, compassionate, and service-oriented interactions.
  • Complete required documentation, data collection, and reporting activities accurately and timely.
  • Demonstrate integrity, accountability, and stewardship in handling donated resources while upholding organizational values, policies, and training requirements.
  • Participates in all required evaluations and audits.
  • Demonstrates New Life Centers’ values.
  • Attends required meetings and trainings.
  • Driving to various locations required.
  • General manual labor duties such as performing physical tasks like lifting, moving, stacking, organizing, carrying materials, and maintaining a clean and save worksite.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Donation & Resources as priorities may change based on organizational needs
