About The Position

The Community Resource Navigator supports families and youth accessing the Neighborhood Place Resource Center by connecting them to essential community resources, with a focus on youth and families experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless. This position provides application assistance, addresses immediate needs, and helps participants navigate systems related to housing, benefits, employment, and family well-being. The Community Resource Navigator also facilitates workshops that increase awareness of available supports and promote family stability. Through compassionate engagement and strong knowledge of community networks, this position ensures that every family and youth who enters the Resource Center receives meaningful, housing-focused, and strengths-based support.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year serving vulnerable populations
  • Knowledge of basic office software especially: MS Word or Google Docs, MS Excel or google sheets, and generally be familiar and comfortable using computers and various programs and apps.
  • Excellent computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Suite, Google Docs, and Google Sheets.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with families, staff, and community members.
  • Knowledge of available community resources.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and adhere to deadlines.
  • Proven organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and maintain flexibility around task assignments.
  • Ability to establish, recognize, and adhere to appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Proven in providing direct service to families and/or individuals.
  • Valid Hawaii driver’s license and no-fault car insurance.
  • Clean driving abstract.
  • Criminal Record and/or DHS-CWS background check

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree or higher
  • Resident of Puna/East Hawaii Community area preferred

Responsibilities

  • Welcome and engage families and youth visiting the Resource Center, ensuring a safe, respectful, and trauma-informed environment.
  • Conduct intake conversations to identify immediate needs and connect participants with appropriate housing, homeless prevention, and family support resources.
  • Provide direct assistance with applications for housing programs, rental assistance, benefits, and other services that promote stability.
  • Maintain current knowledge of housing and homeless service systems, including shelters, rental programs, diversion options, and coordinated entry processes.
  • Assist participants in obtaining identification, documentation, or verification required for housing or benefits applications.
  • Address urgent needs by coordinating access to food, hygiene items, clothing, and other essential supports.
  • Facilitate workshops and small-group sessions on topics such as housing readiness, budgeting, resource navigation, and family well-being.
  • Collaborate with case managers, housing navigators, and partner agencies to ensure warm handoffs and coordinated care.
  • Participate in community meetings and trainings to strengthen collaboration across housing and homeless service networks.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all participant interactions, referrals, and outcomes in accordance with program and funder requirements.
  • Collaborate with community agencies, members, and organizations to become familiar with the services they offer.
  • Deliver all services with a high level of customer focus and service in accordance with training, NPP policies and procedures, program requirements, and direction from leadership.
  • Engage in active listening and use clear communication and verbal skills.
  • Document all pertinent data and information regarding work with individuals, agencies, and other community members promptly in accordance with company requirements.
  • Participate in organization planning.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings
  • Attend community meetings as directed.
  • Update shared calendar to reflect activities, meetings, and general schedule.
  • Participate in the upkeep of office and general cleanliness of workspace
