About The Position

United Way BC is seeking a Community Builder for its 'Hi Neighbour' initiative in Tumbler Ridge. This role focuses on implementing outreach strategies to foster relationship building and resident engagement, ultimately strengthening community connections and resident leadership. The Community Builder will work directly with residents, community groups, businesses, and volunteers to encourage engagement, support community-led projects, promote microgrants, and help create caring, connected, and resilient neighborhoods. The position is a regular part-time role of 20 hours per week for a one-year term, and applicants are encouraged to reside in the Tumbler Ridge, BC area.

Requirements

  • Reside in the neighbourhood of work (Tumbler Ridge, BC area).
  • Deep ties to the community and ability to leverage connections.
  • At least one year of experience working and/or volunteering in the community.
  • Ability to share an inspirational message and catalyze people to use their ideas.
  • Ability to develop relationships between residents and flow easily between different types of meetings.
  • Ability to lead a community event from planning to execution.
  • Comfortable working in ambiguity and setting own priorities and work plan.
  • Understanding of barriers to engagement and the role of equity in community development.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage volunteer engagement, budget spreadsheets, tech platforms, and emails.
  • Comfortable using social media to engage residents and promote initiatives.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Implement outreach strategies to develop opportunities for relationship building and resident engagement.
  • Foster engagement, support community-led projects, and promote microgrant opportunities.
  • Work directly with residents, community groups, businesses, and volunteers.
  • Implement pre-determined strategies to support community members through the HN journey, from initial engagement to leadership development.
  • Develop sustainable community initiatives alongside residents.
  • Motivate informal community champions and utilize connections to build relationships with groups and agencies.
  • Promote United Way's Local Love Fund microgrants and assist residents with project ideas and execution.
  • Act as a brand ambassador for United Way, engaging on social media, at community events, and in the neighbourhood.
  • Bring in organizers and volunteers to increase opportunities with United Way initiatives and develop relationships with local businesses for revenue generation.
  • Perform other duties related to the qualifications and requirements of the job.

Benefits

  • Pay grade 26, which is $29.64 hourly.
