About The Position

The Department of Resident Services, Partnerships and Initiatives (RSPI) engages NYCHA residents in critical programs, services, and initiatives focused on economic opportunity, youth, senior, and social services. RSPI supports NYCHA’s network of Resident Associations and connects residents to opportunities such as financial empowerment, business development, career advancement, and educational programs. RSPI has established a model of engagement that effectively serves residents and stakeholders, supporting the agency's strategic plan for preservation and advancement. The Family Partnerships Department (FPD), a unit within RSPI, connects residents to essential services and implements programs and policies that support household stability, tenancy, individual advancement, aging-in-place, and the reunification of individuals with justice system involvement with their families in NYCHA. FPD also manages partnerships and referrals with external providers and City agencies that offer social service interventions, ensuring connections to high-quality services to help NYCHA families achieve their goals and maintain housing stability. RSPI is seeking an experienced individual to support the Family Partnerships team. The Community Associate will report to the Unit's Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to the above.

Responsibilities

  • Under the guidance of a supervisor, develop plans to provide residents with appropriate social services, employing an early intervention, preventive focused, case management approach.
  • Under the guidance of a supervisor, employ a home visit model to conduct assessments and determine service needs.
  • Conduct in-person and over-the-phone pre-screening of NYCHA residents to make appropriate referrals to formal and informal partners, when needed.
  • Prepare and maintain case records and written reports in the Family Partnerships Case Management Services’ (FPCMS) database.
  • Coordinate services, connecting residents to support systems through direct referral and outreach.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with NYCHA staff and community-based organizations to understand citywide, borough-wide, and development-specific programs, ensuring the best possible referrals and outcomes.
  • Assist with completing key documentation, performing data entry, and following up on referrals, as appropriate. Utilize the FSCMS and database systems to document, track, and make referrals for services relevant to residents’ needs.
  • Perform other related administrative duties, as needed.
