About The Position

The Community Affairs Liaison will plan, develop, implement, and analyze community relations campaigns, marketing efforts, and related events in support of Koniag’s PL 93-638 contract with the US Fish & Wildlife Service.

Requirements

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to work extremely well as part of a team.
  • Ability to evaluate the cost of a program and compare it to the benefits for the organization.
  • Excellent persuasion skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage sensitive or controversial subjects with tact, kindness, and professionalism.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field.
  • At least two years of work in public relations OR at least two years of work in a field related to the company preferred.
  • Ability to pass a background check, including an MVR.

Responsibilities

  • Builds and maintains relationships with members of the Kodiak Island communities in support of the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge (KNWR).
  • Maintains up-to-date lists of all Kodiak Island tribal councils; city councils; ANCSA corporation leadership; rural schools advisory boards and the respective organizations’ contact information.
  • Plans, develops, implements, and organizes events and volunteers to advance the mission and goals of the company and the KNWR.
  • Travels to Kodiak Island rural communities to present educational content; promote and support KNWR programs and facilitate communication between KNWR and Kodiak Island’s rural communities; tribes; ANCSA corporations and stakeholders.
  • Develops and oversees Youth Environmental Technician Intern (YETI) and Young Adult Key Steward (YAKS) internship program.
  • Organizes community outreach programs and coordinates special events that will influence public opinion or promote products, services, or ideas of the company and the KNWR.
  • Drafts regulatory proposals at the request of villages with approval from the KNWR Manager.
  • Develops outreach materials for federal and state hunting and fishing seasons to educate stakeholders on regulatory requirements, land permits, and cultural considerations.
  • Supports intermittent and periodic field work with KNWR staff.
  • Provides presentations on this position’s role and past, present, and upcoming activities.
  • Use social media to coordinate community relations and monitor commentary regarding KNWR.
  • Drafts and distributes/publishes various content pieces that promote the company and the KNWR, as well as individuals or groups within the company and the KNWR.
  • Selects positive publicity materials and distributes them through a variety of channels.
  • Plans, coordinates, and executes special events and press conferences.
  • Provides monthly activity reports to Koniag’s VP, Government and Regional Affairs and the KNWR Manager.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
