About The Position

This role serves as a key communications advisor to project leadership, workstream leads, system integrator partners, and engagement teams for a major, multiyear transformation at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The project involves replacing the legacy ERP business system with a modern enterprise platform, SAP S/4HANA, to improve workflows, unify processes and data, and integrate customized applications. The Communications Specialist will oversee and develop strategic and tactical communications for this organizational change management component, helping teams anticipate communications needs and engage employees Lab-wide throughout the transition. Collaboration with internal partner organizations and external stakeholders is also a key aspect of this role. The specialist will coordinate multimedia staff, contribute to content development for various internal audiences across multiple channels, and maintain communication protocols. The goal is to ensure employees receive clear, timely information about upcoming changes, potential impacts, and support available during the transition to the new system.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of English grammar and punctuation, and extensive experience in editing and writing.
  • Advanced proficiency using Microsoft Word.
  • Baseline understanding of generative AI tools, prompt engineering, evaluating AI-generated content for accuracy and quality, and applying AI responsibly within organizational policies.
  • Strong communication skills and project management experience with large, enterprise-wide initiatives.
  • Excellent writing and editing ability, with sound judgment and the ability to work as a trusted partner to leadership.
  • Proficiency in assessing challenges and creating and executing multi-channel communication campaigns that achieve specific, measurable goals.
  • Experience working with executive-level leaders on a wide variety of projects and products, with the ability to capture an executive's voice and create successful communication materials, such as quotes or correspondence, without significant oversight.
  • A track record of strategically integrating multimedia content (photos, video, and graphics) into campaigns that reach any audience and drive results.
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a physical, life, or social science, and a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior work on a multi-functional, large-scale business transformation project involving SAP S/4HANA is required.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Some experience leading and coordinating cross-functional teams with diverse skillsets and organizational backgrounds to support key business objectives is helpful.
  • Experience working in a national laboratory or other large government organization.
  • Experience with procedures and other process or policy documents related to facility operations.
  • Ability to recognize and coordinate responses to potential third-party relationships that may be affected by the project.
  • Understanding of, and some experience in, organizational change management principles and how to craft communications, including newsletters, that support employee adoption and engagement.
  • Preference given to candidates who have previously worked on a multi-functional, large-scale business transformation project.

  • Lead communications planning across multiple workstreams and execute and deploy implementation strategies.
  • Help teams anticipate communications needs and engage employees Lab-wide throughout the transition.
  • Collaborate with critical internal partner organizations and external stakeholders throughout the project's implementation.
  • Coordinate the efforts of Lab multi-media staff.
  • Contribute to content development for internal audiences, including employees, managers, and other stakeholders, across a variety of channels.
  • Maintain communication protocols across the program team.
  • Help maintain consistent messaging and manage key communications vehicles.
  • Ensure employees receive clear, timely information about upcoming changes, how staff may be affected, and how they will be supported and prepared for the transition to the new system.
