About The Position

Pasa Sustainable Agriculture seeks a creative, strategic, and collaborative Communications & Marketing Lead to advance the organization's mission through compelling storytelling, strong brand stewardship, and integrated marketing strategies. The Communications & Marketing Lead is responsible for ensuring that Pasa communicates with clarity, consistency, and impact across all audiences—including farmers, funders, policymakers, partners, media, and the general public. This role develops and implements marketing and communications strategies that strengthen Pasa's visibility, support fundraising and programmatic goals, grow participation in programs and events, and elevate the voices of the farmers we serve. Working closely with staff across the organization, this position translates complex agricultural, environmental, and policy topics into engaging and accessible communications while ensuring all messaging reflects Pasa's mission, values, and commitment to equity and belonging. Passionate about helping farmers tell their stories and expanding Pasa's impact. This is a primarily remote position with in-person workdays and 2-3 annual in-person staff retreats. All employees are required to attend our annual Sustainable Agriculture Conference, which takes place each February in Lancaster, PA. Employees are required to live in Pennsylvania or within 150 miles of Harrisburg, unless they receive approval for Philadelphia or Pittsburgh to be their primary work location, in which case employees are required to live within an hour's drive from Philadelphia or Pittsburgh. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or related field
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible communications or marketing experience
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills
  • Experience managing websites, email marketing platforms, social media, and digital marketing
  • Experience leading integrated marketing campaigns
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, engaging language
  • Experience using analytics to improve communications performance
  • Commitment to advancing the principles of anti-oppression
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in agriculture, food systems, conservation, climate, or environmental nonprofits
  • Familiarity with CRM and marketing automation platforms
  • Experience supporting fundraising communications
  • Graphic design experience using Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva
  • Photography and/or video production experience
  • Working proficiency in Spanish
  • Experience supervising staff or managing contractors

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an organization-wide communications and marketing strategy
  • Ensure communications consistently reflect Pasa's mission, strategic priorities, and organizational values
  • Maintain and evolve Pasa's brand identity, messaging framework, and visual standards
  • Develop annual communications plans aligned with organizational and departmental goals
  • Identify new opportunities to increase visibility and audience engagement
  • Lead marketing campaigns supporting educational programs, technical assistance, conferences, fundraising, research, and policy initiatives.
  • Develop compelling stories that highlight farmer impact, staff expertise, and organizational outcomes.
  • Collaborate across departments to identify stories that demonstrate measurable impact.
  • Ensure communications effectively reach diverse audiences using appropriate platforms and messaging.
  • Manage and continuously improve Pasa's website strategy, content, and user experience.
  • Oversee email marketing strategy, including newsletters, event promotions, fundraising campaigns, and automated communications.
  • Develop and manage social media strategy across platforms.
  • Monitor digital analytics and recommend improvements based on audience engagement.
  • Cultivate relationships with media outlets and journalists.
  • Draft press releases, media advisories, opinion pieces, and public statements.
  • Coordinate interviews and prepare organizational leaders as media spokespeople.
  • Support rapid-response communications when needed.
  • Partner closely with Development staff to create integrated fundraising campaigns.
  • Develop donor communications, annual reports, impact reports, stewardship materials, and campaign messaging.
  • Assist with grant proposal communications and grant reporting.
  • Support organizational advocacy and policy communications.
  • Write and edit high-quality content for multiple audiences and platforms.
  • Develop publications, brochures, presentations, fact sheets, case studies, videos, and digital resources.
  • Coordinate photography, videography, graphic design, and other creative services.
  • Maintain editorial calendars and publication schedules.
  • Ensure consistency of messaging and visual identity across all communications.
  • Develop templates, style guides, and communication standards.
  • Support staff with communication planning and messaging.
  • Establish communications metrics and key performance indicators.
  • Analyze campaign performance and audience engagement.
  • Recommend improvements based on data and organizational priorities.
  • Stay current on communications, accessibility, marketing, and nonprofit best practices.
  • Coordinate the work of communications staff, interns, contractors, freelancers, photographers, designers, and web developers.
  • Foster collaboration across departments to ensure communications are integrated into organizational planning.
  • Manage communications projects from concept through completion.
