About The Position

As the Marketing and Communications Lead, you will be responsible for the planning and executing of Closer to Home’s internal and external communication. This role generates original and engaging multimedia content for various platforms to support Closer to Home’s storytelling, which showcases impact, uplifts community voices, and drives engagement and brand awareness. This is a temporary full-time 16-month contract role with potential for permanent employment following the end of the contract.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in communications, media, or public relations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, social media platforms, content management systems, analytics tools
  • Strong writing and editing skills; familiarity with Canadian Press Style is an asset
  • Experience producing content for print, digital, and multimedia platforms
  • Self-starter; able to work with minimal guidance while collaborating with various departments and stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and integrity
  • Organized, adaptable, and able to manage multiple deadlines under pressure
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • A clear Police Information Check and an Intervention Record Check are required prior to commencement and as requested
  • This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for work-related purposes. Candidates must show proof of a class 5 Alberta driver's license, a personal vehicle, and a clean 3-year drivers abstract. Candidates must also agree to maintain $2 million liability insurance on their personal vehicle, and consent to the possibility of an annual driver's abstract review to meet our insurance provider’s requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, monitor, and evaluate communications strategies and campaigns.
  • Provide brand and social media guidance to ensure agency-wide consistency across written documents (including Reports to Community, impact reports, donor proposals, recognition items, flyers, brochures, advertisements, training tools, and branded print materials).
  • Maintain and design printed content, such as brochures, newsletters, business cards, and annual reports.
  • Develop relationships across the agency leadership to ensure messaging is aligned between departments and programs.
  • Maintain and regularly update website content, working with the webmaster on technical improvements.
  • Coordinate and advise with leadership as CTH moves to a new website platform
  • Ensure all social media platforms are current and populated with engaging posts.
  • Track and analyze engagement across digital platforms, using analytics to drive content improvements.
  • Capture and organize event photography, and manage digital image archives.
  • Support fund development by contributing to materials and donor-facing content.
  • Encourage frontline staff to share client stories for public engagement, and collect/file these stories.
  • Build and maintain relationships with media contacts, maintain the media database, monitor media coverage, and provide regular reporting.
  • Write and distribute media materials, including press releases, backgrounders, fact sheets, and speeches.
  • Coordinate media engagement for agency events and key initiatives.
