About The Position

Located at Lincoln Center, the Library for the Performing Arts has one of the most extensive performing arts collections in the world. The Library is an archive of dance, theater, music, and recorded sound. The Communications Library Page works to support the communications efforts that promote the work of all divisions and departments at the Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. The Library maintains a regular schedule of events, exhibitions, news, and acquisitions that are promoted through our social media channels, email newsletters, website, and press outreach. To aid in this promotional activity, the Communications Library Page researches cross-promotional opportunities and contacts, maintains a robust social media calendar, and helps with video production, editing, content creation, and ideation. Joining NYPL as a Communications Library Page is a great opportunity to learn about the inner-workings of one of the foremost performing arts libraries in the country and is the stepping stone to a great career in communications and within the arts. You will have access to the Library Page Fellowship Program as a Library Page. A career growth development program that empowers youth as they shape their careers. The Program provides resources to help develop career readiness skills, explore career goals, and provide on-the-job coaching, training, and mentorship. The library page position is scheduled for 19 hours per week, which may include evenings and Saturdays. Schedules are variable based on library needs and may be subject to change.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited school
  • Proper employment certificate for minors under 18 as required by NYS law
  • Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain and foster cooperative and courteous working relationships.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs, the Google suite, the Internet, and e-mail programs.
  • Some skills in Adobe Premiere, Canva, or another mobile-based video editing software.
  • Demonstrated interest in photography and videography.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team and on independent projects.
  • Demonstrated flexibility, reliability, and initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with video creation, production, editing, and ideation
  • Assist social media calendar and content creation
  • Help draft blog posts that center and drive attention to NYPL’s archives
  • Research contacts for cross-promo
  • Assist with researching press outlets
  • Drafts monthly social media reports for staff
  • Assists with events coverage
