About The Position

The Communications/Media Relations Internship provides an opportunity to learn and assist with the day-to-day operations of the Colorado Avalanche Communications department, as well as work with the hockey operations staff. This internship position will specifically focus on the topic of media relations and team operations.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School or GED
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work with deadlines in a fast-paced environment with media, players, coaches and multiple departments.
  • Foundational knowledge of the National Hockey League and its personnel.
  • Good working knowledge of the Adobe Suite (InDesign), word processing and spreadsheet software skills.
  • Familiarity with hockey statistical websites such as NHL.com, hockey-reference, hockeydb, etc.
  • Ability to keep information pertaining to team business confidential unless given permission otherwise.
  • Willingness to learn and contribute to team goals.
  • Strong professional presence.

  • Ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Execute assigned duties for all 42 Avalanche home regular-season games, both home preseason games, all home Stanley Cup Playoff games.
  • Executes the daily production and distribution of the press clippings and gathering all Colorado Avalanche/NHL stories from local, national and international news services.
  • Assists in the distribution of the Colorado Avalanche team/media/photo credentials for all home games.
  • Sets up the Ball Arena press box for all home games.
  • Orchestrates the creation of line charts for all home games.
  • Contributes to the day-to-day content of the Avalanche’s official written documents, including gameday previews, monthly updates, prospect reports, postgame quote transcriptions and feature stories.
  • Writes content and edits media guides, including training camp and post-season guides
  • Assists with the department’s Postgame Report that gets sent out to media articulating notable stats and trends from that night’s game.
  • Helps with coordination of press conferences and team events.
  • Provides general support for the hockey operations staff, including executives, coaches, scouts and team services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Benefits
